Sandalio lives in the Drago Complex, specifically in the building with the Cobra on the front. He shares one of the apartments in that building with his two husbands - Haku and Kassandros.
Proto-Basque, Modern Basque, Latin, Spanish (several dialects), Italian. Also English. Conversational french and german. Russian... Middle Persian.
Sandalio wears his hair a bit long, and his gray eyes tend to glow slightly if you catch him from the right angle. Joys of being a really old vampire. He's also got fangs - but he is careful to conceal them most of the time.
I am the Warrior, wielding the spear that destroys evil. I am the Lover, teaching mortals of love and passion. I am the Mother, from which all comes and to which all must return. I am the Darkness -- always watching, always listening, ALWAYS THERE.
Sandalio is the embodiment of the god (occasionally goddess) of shadows. He is the dark to Kassandros' light. He is the passion to Kassandros' calm. And sometimes, he is the sword to Kassandros' sheath. Light cannot exist without darkness, and darkness cannot exist without light. In the end the two of them create a balance, much like the human concept of yin and yang - if one dies, the other will suffer for it.
No one does dark magic quite the way Sandalio does.
But there is one thing that Sandalio can do that most just can't. The darkness, much like the light, is always there, it sees everything. And he can, if he chooses, essentially know anything that has happened. He also hears the light and the darkness whisper from time to time, telling him things that transpire or leading him to things he needs to see.
Sandalio was born just to the west of the Pyrenees mountains. He was born in a region that spoke proto-basque at the time, and was still fighting off the Roman encroachment. He was fourteen the year that he was taken by the Romans as a prisoner of war. Fourteen the year that he crossed the Pyrenees mountains for the first time and was eventually taken all the way back to the modern day Italian peninsula.
Sandalio was sold as a gladiator-to-be. At fourteen, he was taken by a house, and trained. By sixteen he had made his first appearances in the Arena. It didn't take long to earn his brand. He survived. Unfortunately, he survived by taking the lives of those whom he faced in the Arena. At the time Sandalio wasn't really sure which of them were coming off better, on the longer run, after all, those who died did not have to suffer the Roman abuse any longer.
But then maybe some of them had families, maybe some of them weren't even slaves. It was... all the same in the Arena. They all bled red, after all.
Eventually he would be sold from one house, and bought by another - this one who did not have a Ludus. That house was surprisingly pleasant. He and another ex-bloodfighter were kept to act as the Lady's body guards, and general house guards. What they weren't expecting was the House to fall and the woman to be charged with impersonating a noblewoman - as she was actually a slave herself.
They survived the fall, and back to the market Sandalio went. Again, the ex-gladiator was bought by a house that chose to use him as a guard instead of having a ludus. And again, the house was surprisingly decent. He has no idea how that happened twice in a row.
Kassandros was...an interesting master to get used to, and not at all what Sandalio expected of him. But Sandalio enjoyed his time in house Julia Caesar, far more than he expected to. At least, until one of the branches of house Crassi decided to take them prisoner and torture them while simultaneously acting to destroy the house.
Kassi died and Marcus turned on Sandalio - but by then he didn't care. He didn't care what happened to him because the only thing that was important was gone. Sandalio tried to do Marcus as much damage as he could - and he took a great deal of damage himself in the short fight.
Salvation that day came in the form of Sati and Surya Lucain. Sandalio and Kassandros were both Turned, and then they went home. Kassandros would remain unconscious for another week - a time in which Sandalio did wonder if it was the right thing, keeping him alive. On the other hand, Sandalio is relatively sure that things would have been much, much worse if they had lost Kassandros entirely.
Life would continue for their small - okay, rather large for the time - cluster of vampires. They kept to themselves mostly, not interacting with Rome at large any more than they had to - after all, their house had fallen, and they weren't supposed to be alive, anymore. Still, when the republic began to crumble, Kassandros and the Cobras stepped forward to try and minimize the backlash on the common people.
It seemed to be overnight, though it was not, that the Cobras became known as the Drago Di Napoli. The Drago would go from being a coven to being something of a mafia - right along with all the illegal escapades.
At some point amid all of this, Sandalio not only continued his long running relationship with Kassandros but gained one with Haku. And slowly Haku joined their pair, making it a triad. They were eventually married, all three of them, in Sweden. The three together have raised many abandoned children over the years as well.
Life has not been easy. Sandalio must admit to being tired by this stage of the game - and he can only imagine how much worse it is for Kassander. But things continued onward, and the world has grown up around them. There are many, many more humans these days than there once were. But the human propensity for destruction hasn't changed at all.
These days, the Drago has moved to the United States, and settled around Luxerion. Sandalio didn't find out until very recently why they were there at all. But now... now he knows. The fate of the world more or less rests on what they're doing here in Luxerion, and that's... kind of scary.
